Windows 7 - Hover your mouse and surprise - you just clicked!

While this could be a pleasant surprise feature for some it may not suit all who barely saw where the mouse landed and were suddenly whisked away. Here's what you're looking for:

Click Start > Select Control Panel > Ease of Access > Make the mouse easier to use - or -
Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center and select the "Make the mouse easier to use" option.

As you can see in our diagram with the red arrow there is a check box:
"Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse". Make sure the box is unchecked.

Click on "Apply" and "OK".

You may like to experiment with the hover time for the taskbar. After 400 milliseconds the taskbar preview is shown. You can change this setting.

1. Click on Start and type in Regedit and hit Enter.
2. Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
3. Right click on Advanced and select New DWORD.
4. Name the new value "ExtendedUIHoverTime"
5. Right click on ExtendedUIHoverTime and select Modify to change the default 400 milliseconds.
6. Switch to Decimal base and enter a new number.
7. Click OK and restart your computer.

Want more? You can adjust the hover delay for everything including taskbar icons, start menu shortcuts, etc.:
1. Click on Start and type in Regedit and hit Enter.
2. Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse.
3. Right click on MouseHoverTime and select Modify to change the the default 400 milliseconds.
4. Switch to Decimal base and enter a new number.
5. Click OK and restart your computer.
